Seesea is our initiative to establish low cost coastal cameras to continuously upload live underwater images of our marine environment to the public internet. The seaChannel system was designed, in part, for this application. see our image gallery from Taputeranga Marine Reserve on Wellington’s south coast.
Check out our AI/machine learning project, where we are developing AI to recognise fish and objects of interest, so the most interesting images can be automatically sorted and presented on the seesea.tv website. This is a work in progress at the moment, and incorporates state of the art neural network image classification, using an embedded computer at the shore site, in conjuction with a low power visual processing unit. However, initial results here, are encouraging, and we expect this to improve considerably as we grow our image database and improve our skills in driving this AI technologye.
